Printers Row Lit Fest 2023: ReadersMagnet Makes It Lit!

The Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 has officially ended, and it couldn’t have gone better. ReadersMagnet at Printers Row Lit Fest hit all the high notes and more!

Hailed as the Midwest’s largest free outdoor literary showcase, The Printers Row Lit Fest has always been for and by the community. It is a time for celebrating book lovers all around and the appreciation for literary excellence. Now in its 38th year, the candidate (and a major contender) for one of the best literary festivals in the country had under a hundred programs that featured around 200 national and local decorated and award-winning poets and novelists, freshmen published writers, emerging talents, passionate journalists, children’s authors and illustrators, musicians, public speakers, and comedians.

Headlining the event were Robert Samuels and Toluse Olorunnipa, the winners of this year’s Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction, who had a productive and insightful discussion with Natalie Moore about their work His Name Is George Floyd: One Man’s Life and the Struggle for Racial Justice.

Authors from all across the country and plenty more locally (in Chicago) made their way to the festival, promoting and talking about their writing journeys and their works. The vast array of literary genres and subjects were found generously scattered across the many kiosks and tents of the two-day event.

Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

Ran by the non-profit outfit Near South Planning Board, Printers Rows Lit Fest 2023 saw more than a hundred thousand book enthusiasts in attendance, coming and going, making stops where their interests led them, and engaging with each other. Over a hundred booksellers and publishers had the opportunity to show off their shelves, showcasing everything from old and dusty tomes, secondhand novels, and surplus copies to fresh and new releases.

Almost forty years ago, the Printers Row Lit Fest first began as an unassuming street book fair for the local printers and publishers of Chicago. Now, it is one of the largest and busiest literary events in the country. It is a testament to the power of writing, especially at a time when, in many states across the Union, the First Amendment is callously attacked by the deliberate targeting of works that heavily or marginally feature themes such as race, identity, sexual orientation, and gender.

The home state of the Printers Row Lit Fest, Illinois, was the first state to ban book bans just this year.

Readersmagnet Makes It Lit!

Out of the hundreds of publishers attending the event, ReadersMagnet at Printers Row Lit Fest had one of the most successful runs! Despite a modest single tent, hundreds of book lovers nationwide visited ReadersMagnet, and a hundred more listened to our online showcase, where authors were allowed to speak passionately about their lives and their books.

Among the wide range of literary events that included panel discussions and author readings, our author sessions were some of the more intimate and intelligent. Readers of all ages and interests were catered to and represented by their wide selection of authors and books.

While the main event of the festival featured many prominent and famous authors, our space (and other similar small-scale events) also became a place for lesser-known authors to shine and promote their works and network with their fellow up-and-coming authors. Our book signing events were also quite successful, having introduced published works from our lineup to hundreds of book enthusiasts visiting from across the country.

ReadersMagnet’s two-day stint at Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 was a resounding success. Everyone got something, and book lovers received a unique and memorable experience with our book signing and author talk events. The festival showed the world once again why ReadersMagnet deserves to be in this industry and as a platform to Let Your Stories Be Heard.

We can’t wait to visit the Windy City again next year!
